Itron Smart Grid Solutions Recognized with GridVision Award
International Engineering Consortium honors company's advances toward a smarter, more efficient and more reliable grid
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.— February 2, 2010—Itron Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) announced today that it is the recipient of a GridVision award from the International Engineering Consortium (IEC). The award recognizes Itron's significant advances toward a smarter, more efficient and more reliable power grid.
"The GridVision awards recognize companies that enable new leaps in efficiency and productivity in the deployment of the smart grid," said IEC president John R. Janowiak. "The IEC is pleased to provide this recognition to organizations that embody innovation, impact, and service to the industry."
Itron smart grid solutions, including its smart metering system, OpenWay®, and Itron Enterprise Edition™ Meter Data Management, support the dependable delivery of power by enabling bi-directional data communications and system integration. These solutions provide the means for demand response, time-based pricing and remote connect/disconnect functionality, as well as meter data validation, estimation and editing.
The past year has seen substantial progress in the deployment of smart grid technologies. GridVision award honorees were chosen by a panel of industry experts as exemplifying the most innovative and effective applications of these technologies.
Itron recently hit a delivery milestone with its shipment of 1 million OpenWay units, proving strong industry demand and adoption of demonstrated smart grid technologies.
The award ceremony took place Tuesday at Grid ComForum, an event hosted by the IEC for the electric power and telecommunications industries in Santa Clara.
